The trend in the past couple of years has been to minimize, purge, discard and disconnect from anything that doesn’t bring you joy.
I would like to suggest that you consider being MINDFUL versus MILITANT.
We are all individuals with varying circumstances and reasons why we are faced with clutter and disorganization in our lives and homes, and thus need to consider our starting point while getting organized.
To get organized, first you must know what you want to accomplish, and second you will need to remove the barriers in order to create a space that is functional and realistic for you and your family, both mentally and physically.
To do so, implement a C.L.E.A.R. organizational plan prior to throwing away cherished items, imposing impossible expectations on your family, offending loved ones, wasting valuable time categorizing Lego pieces and beating yourself up for having a chaotic pantry.
Consider each organizational task, including the removal of barriers (i.e. mental blocks), as an individual project. By doing so, you will enjoy and experience quick progress, find yourself motivated to continue, become more compassionate and free in your mind, you will also benefit from others being a part of the process instead of the problem.
To get organized, get C.L.E.A.R.
Commit: Name it. What is your project to complete? WHY is it important? What is the outcome? Desired effect?
Little Chunks: Break your project into small steps and stages, so that it is easy to manage and to see progress.
Engage Help/Support: You are not alone. Let others know what, why & when you are DOING your project work. Can you delegate? Employ help? What is the value of doing so?
Action: Plan and put in effort. Prepare, schedule. Create time lines, lists and what ever you need to move forward. DO!
Review & Recall: Remind yourself of your commitment. Celebrate completed projects. Align your actions with your values, your why, your plan?
Getting organized is an ongoing process. Being organized requires trusted systems and flexibility. Enjoy the process of being C.L.E.A.R. this year!
